Born in Córdoba, Spain, in 1974, Mateo Fetén is the pseudonym of Emilio Ruiz Mateo. His collages have been featured in publications such as ABC Cultural, SModa, or Matador; covers for La Bella Varsovia, Visor, or Alianza, and exhibitions at Factoría de Arte y Desarrollo, Condeduque, Casasur, RGF Studio, Bastardo, Ocean Drive Madrid, or HOFF Galería.
He works with collage in a completely analog manner, in the classic way, without the intervention of digital techniques and always with original materials: paper textures,
magazines from past decades, photographs bought at flea markets, old books… The randomness imposed by working with these types of materials reduces specific possibilities but, possibly, awakens unprecedented connections and possibilities.
He moves between the Diogenes syndrome in the studio and minimalism in the work: a firm defender of less is more, he especially enjoys when a
collage emerges with two cutouts, or even just one.
