Chema Perona

Chema Perona (ChePe) was born in 1974 in Tomelloso (Ciudad Real).

He completed his artistic baccalaureate at the Antonio Lopez School of Arts and Crafts in his hometown, where he specialized in graphic design.

A lover of subculture, rock and roll and all its branches, he began his creative development as a collagist and visual artist after seeing an exhibition by Richard Hamilton and his work What Makes Today's Homes So Different, So Appealing? which he felt seduced and identified by.

At the age of 23, he moved to Madrid, where he has resided ever since. He works with different styles such as surrealism, pop, geometry, three-dimensionality…

Despite studying graphic design, his work is completely analog, except for exceptions or commissions, and is developed with original copies from an extensive collection of magazines ranging from the 1940s to the present, playing with copies of Life, Paris Match, Época, Hola, Vogue, etc., which he uses to investigate and decontextualize images, giving them new meanings.

His references are varied, from the Dadaist masters of the early 20th century to the pop art masters, Terry Gilliam, Bruce Conner, Picasso among many others, whom he greatly admires.

He exhibits in different galleries such as:

-Casasur art lab (Madrid)

-Posada de los Portales (Tomelloso)

-Estudio Arriaza (Madrid)

-Galería Jorge Martínez (Guadalajara, Mexico)

-Espacio Jorge Juan (Madrid)

-Bodegas Verum (Tomelloso)

-ESTUDIO INVERSO (Madrid)

-Escuela de Artes y Oficios La Palma (Madrid)

Currently, he is the co-founder of ESTUDIO INVERSO, a shared studio for visual artists from different disciplines in the Malasaña neighborhood (Madrid)
